Thank you for your interest in MVC club volleyball. Please review the FAQs below.
Club teams are competitive programs and only a certain number of travelling teams will form, which means not all athletes will make a competitive club team. Each travelling team roster will carry a maximum of 12 athletes. Athletes that tryout for 14U girls and 15/16U girls competitive club teams, but do not make the traveling club teams, will be given first priority to register for MVC house league programs. If spots remain in the house league program, registration will then be made available to the general public.
If you still require further information prior to registering for competitive club tryouts, please contact us at admin@marinersvolleyballclub.ca.

Athletes must register in the age category they are eligible for based on their age and grade. Every age category will run tryouts across two sessions on separate days as listed in the tryout flyer – athletes are required to attend both tryout sessions for their age category.
Any athlete that is interested in trying out for an older age category must follow the process as outlined in the MVC Playing Up Policy.
The club season typically runs from December until April/May when Provincials occur. Some competitive club teams also choose to attend Nationals, which are typically held in May after Provincials.
Mariners Volleyball Club participates in competitions on and off the Island. 14U boys and girls will participate in Island events and will only travel to the Lower Mainland / Fraser Valley for Provincial Championships. 15-18U boys and girls will participate in Volleyball BC Super Series events in Lower Mainland / Fraser Valley and on Vancouver Island and Provincial Championships in the LM/FV. Mariners Volleyball Club has made the conscious decision not to travel to the Okanagan in order to ensure the health and safety of coaches, athletes and families remains paramount.

After tryouts, the MVC selection committee members will work to select athletes for the competitive club teams. Athletes will be offered a spot in accordance with Volleyball BC signing dates. For each age category, it is approximately 7-10 days from the start of tryouts until the signing date. Each team roster will carry a maximum of 12 athletes
We purposely budget team and program fees with little or no margin in order to keep player fees as low as possible. Funds used to provide programs are fully sourced from club/program fees paid by athletes. We currently have no funds coming from BC Gaming. For each team, we calculate the cost of Volleyball BC and Volleyball Canada membership fees, tournament/play day entry fees, uniforms, gym rentals, coaching costs (including travel, NCCP certification, high performance and mentorship, criminal record checks etc.), equipment and administrative costs. Once we add up the total costs for each program, we divide that cost by the number of players that join the team or are expected to join the program.
Please note that individual athlete travel is not accounted for in the per player amount estimated by MVC each season. The amounts are also based on a full team of 12 athletes. Costs may be subject to increase if teams do not have a full roster of 12 athletes.
Athlete travel and accommodation costs are not included in club fees. The club and/or team coaches are not responsible for organizing athlete travel or accommodation and are not permitted to act as the primary guardian for athletes while travelling (i.e., if a family cannot travel with their child, they are responsible for providing another guardian for their child for the duration of the trip).
Parents are responsible for getting their own child to and from events, arranging their accommodations for out-of-town trips, and are responsible for their child while travelling. Families are not required to stay in hotels (i.e., they can choose to stay with other friends or family when travelling). If parents cannot attend an event, it is their responsibility to coordinate travel and care for their child for the duration of the trip and tournament.
Yes. Club fees can be paid in a lump sum or they can be paid across the club fee payment plan in a series of three payments.
Payment #1 is a slightly larger payment and ensures commitment to the Mariners Volleyball Program. This payment is typically due right after selections are finalized and must be paid by the Payment #1 due date to hold an athlete’s spot within the program. If payment has not been received, we will move on to the next athlete.
- Payment #1 is typically due early/mid-December shortly after athletes are signed (based on the age category signing date).
- Payment #2 is typically due mid-January.
- Payment #3 is typically due mid-February.
After team selections are finalized for competitive traveling club teams, MVC will work to create recreational opportunities for athletes who are not selected to competitive club teams.
House Leagues will run for 14U girls and 15/16U girls. Athletes that tryout for competitive club teams in these age categories, but do not make the traveling club teams, will be given first priority in registering for MVC house league programs. MVC house leagues offer a fun and competitive environment for those athletes who want to continue to play volleyball. House leagues also provide an affordable opportunity for those families who cannot commit to the travel schedule and costs associated with the competitive travelling club program.
Further information will be available once competitive club team selections are finalized. Please sign-up for our newsletter at the top of our website to ensure you receive email updates regarding recreational opportunities.
