Being a part of Mariners volleyball club was an incredible experience through which I met lifelong friends and learned many valuable lessons. My five years with the club helped me to grow both on and off the court by teaching me what it means to be a teammate, friend, and volleyball player. I was fortunate enough to learn from an outstanding group of coaches that encouraged me to strive for my athletic goals and helped in making these goals achievable. The skill development that I saw in myself and my teammates as we approached our final year with the club was amazing to see and I’m grateful for the support system of people that helped along the way.

I had the opportunity to play with the Mariners Volleyball Club for three years. Throughout my years I had many coaches who helped me gain a deeper understanding of the game. Each practice consisted of drills that focused on developing technically skills as well as game play. The coaches created an environment that encouraged players to have fun while creating new friendships. If I did not play club volleyball, I would not have developed into the player or person I am today. I had many great coaches and teammates, whom are some of my closest friends. Playing club volleyball opened up many opportunities for me. I have been able to attend BC Summer Games, play for Team BC volleyball and varsity volleyball at Vancouver Island University which has allowed me to travel to various locations across North America. Currently, I am giving back to the sport by coaching summer camps with Athletes in Action Volleyball, inspiring young athletes to grow a passion for the sport I love.

Playing for MVC was a great experience, being able to learn the game of volleyball, while having fun and meeting new friends. I learned a lot from my peers and my coaches about the game and was able to translate that to life experiences. Now that I have graduated from playing with the club, I have been given the opportunity to give back through coaching. Through this experience I continue to learn life lessons that will help me in my future endeavours.
