MVC Beach Volleyball Proposal to City of Nanaimo
On Wednesday, October 20, 2021 Club President Shawn Owen and Technical Director Rick Bevis attended the City of Nanaimo’s Finance and Audit Committee meeting to present MVC’s vision to upgrade and expand the Beach Volleyball Facility at Bowen Park. Our hope is to develop a stronger working relationship with the City and increase the opportunity to run programs for youth and adults of all ages and abilities. We proposed to our City Councillors in attendance to increase the access for both programming and recreational use, by expanding from 4 courts to 7! We also proposed continuing to upgrade the infrastructure and amenities currently available, including new standards and additional fencing. This past year, we have made small strides at the venue, by upgrading our storage capacity, parking and accessibility for spectators, some new maintenance equipment, and courtside amenities, such as shade tents. Hopefully, in the next few months the Club will be able to share some positive news on our initiatives!
